I have a passion for helping people, and believe that I can, and will positively influence everyone I train.

I will have you performing at the best of your abilities given a little time and dedication You will achieve the results you want, inside and outside of the gym.

I hold a full Personal Trainer Diploma, GP Referral and CYQ Level 3; in Nutrition and Weight Management; and Lifestyle Fitness Assessment, and Training in Different Environments. I have An NLP diploma and implement techniques learnt with my clients from anchoring, to goal setting. Identifying the real driver for somebody will maximise the results.

To anyone who needs some guidance in becoming fit and healthy, I can recommend Barry Hobson with great confidence. 3 months before I joined the gym I lost my mum to a heart attack. She lived her life overweight and with various health problems including diabetes and heart disease. Realising I could not let the same happen to me I decided to get my health and fitness in order. In the beginning, I really didn't have a clue where to start and made little progress, but in October I started training with Barry and have to say its the best decision I ever made. He is highly professional but also up for a laugh so made me feel really comfortable! He goes at my pace but at the same time makes sure I push myself a bit more every session. Hiring a personal trainer made me realise there's a lot more to learn than I thought in order to workout effectively. In the 8 months I have trained with Barry we very rarely do the same thing twice, unless at my request. It is impossible to get bored! Before I started training with Barry, I had seen several personal trainers, with varying degrees of success. Barry helped me to figure out how I could eat a healthy balanced diet, that met my training and weight loss goals but that also fit into my lifestyle. As a shift worker, I struggled to know what to eat and when with Barry’s help, I was able to fit in the right amount of training around my working hours and maintain a healthy diet that helped me drop body fat and get into shape.

I’ve been training with Barry for approximately 2 years, and the difference to my mobility is much improved. I was born with Cerebral Palsy which means balance and co-ordination is very limited. Barry hadn’t worked with a disabled person before, so he wasn’t aware of the appropriate exercises to give me. He researched CP and it soon became apparent that their recommendations weren’t challenging enough! I have to tell you, he’s a very fast learner! He soon devised a program that motivated, strengthened, and wore me out! Because of the training, I can now push and pull weights which have strengthened and toned my limbs. Kick and punch without missing the pad! My coordination is coming into being. I can do a lot core work by doing floor exercises. Barry is with me all the time, making sure I do not fall or hurt myself, and so I’m able to walk on the treadmill, albeit very slowly but up a steep incline which has raised my fitness level and improved my balance. All this has come about because Barry Hobson is an excellent PT. He is conscientious, patient, encouraging and I trust him. He makes me laugh too, which is very important when you are knac tired! I’m lucky to have him as my Personal Trainer and I appreciate everything he is doing for me.

I have been working in the fitness industry for the last 13 years, but I have been involved in health and fitness myself from an early age. I started martial arts, specifically Shotokan Karate at the age of 7 and kept this up until my early 20s. I got my very own set of weights in my early teens and started lifting weights at home until I was old enough to get my own gym membership. 

This Is really where my passion for health and fitness developed, I wanted to know more about how I could improve and develop myself and my knowledge around health and fitness and I began reading about different training methods and nutrition. 

My interest in fitness eventually lead to me seeking a career in the fitness industry. I wanted to be able to help other people reach their own fitness goals and qualified as a gym instructor and then a personal trainer. 

Once I was qualified and had started working with clients my interest grew so I continued to learn how to help people further, so I completed a Neuro-linguistic programming diploma, to help me communicate better with my clients, and completed a GP referral instructor qualification which enabled me to work with special populations and enhanced my skill set as a trainer and coach. I started my career as a personal trainer in the commercial gym setting where I became a PT mentor and then progressed on to the PT manager’s position. I left this role to set up my own personal training studio which I have been operating for the last 8 years.

Through my role as a trainer, I have experience in coaching a variety of clients from 8-year-old child gymnasts to my oldest client at 76. I have trained general populations looking for weight loss, weight gain, or muscle building, to specialist populations such as clients with limited mobility or disabilities including cerebral palsy, brain injury, hypermobility, and hemiplegia. 

I am currently embarking on my final year at university for a degree in nutrition, as again I wanted to be able to provide an evidence-based approach to help my clients and show them how nutrition can positively impact their health, performance, and mental wellbeing.

Through my experience working with a diverse client base, I have honed my coaching style, to meet the needs of my clients, I am approachable, empathetic, and motivating, I believe that training can be fun and often use humour to make my clients feel comfortable, even though the training can be tough.

I've been going to see Barry at Press - Tone since August 2020. I can honestly say there are very few exercises that I've done twice, such is his diverse repertoire! He has superb anatomical knowledge and a passion for nutrition - combining to make a great all round experience. But it's results that matter....and Barry definitely gets results. My overall body shape has changed and I've lost the weight I wanted to. We are now focused on 'target areas' and once again I'm seeing incredible results. He drives you hard but his great personality and unwavering politeness (even when you're swearing at him!) make him the perfect PT. If you're looking for knowledgeable, effective, results driven PT then I can't recommend Barry enough.

Signed up for a block of PT sessions with Barry after years of not doing very much activity at all. I hoped to get level of fitness back out of a group setting due to being self conscious. Barry was very patient and put me at ease. My fitness was pretty poor but I could see it improve as the weeks went on which was so motivating. The sessions were varied so it never got boring. Barry is very knowledgeable and explained how the different exercises targeted different areas, also gave me advice as to diet which was helpful. I really enjoyed my sessions and would highly recommend Barry to anyone looking to improve their health and fitness in a comfortable supportive setting. Done both 1-2-1 PT and boot camp with Barry @ press tone! My core strength came on leaps and bounds...my weight dropped 2 stone and I finally had muscle definition again! I started out having not done any exercise for best part of 10 years, after 12months with Barry I smashed tough mudder and had done over a dozen 10k runs! Highly recommended!!

After training with Barry for over 6 months, doing both his boot camp classes and also personal training sessions, he has helped push me in a direction I’ve not been able to go in a conventional gym doing weight training. His knowledge really helps to vary sessions and keep pushing yourself to a higher level. Not only this but he delivers a professional and friendly service, different from what you see in most run of the mill PT’s. I highly recommend Barry if you need help hitting your goals!
